The entrance to the Beaulieu River looking east. To the left is Lepe Hard
which features in "Requiem for a Wren". David Anderson ran aground at this
entrance because he thought the leading marks were wrong. Shute himself
spent many hours on this stretch of water testing the Swallow Glider in
1943-1944 during his time at the Department of Miscellaneous Weapons
Development.
The entrance to the Beaulieu River looking
west. Ahead to the left of the Yacht is Needs Oar Point. Exbury House (HMS
Mastodon) is about a mile off to the right of this shot.

An aerial view of Yarmouth Harbour on the Isle of Wight. The Corbetts had to
anchor just outside the harbour in "What Happened to the Corbetts" and David
and Rosemary met whilst moored in the harbour in "In The Wet"

Exbury House. This was HMS Mastodon during the Second World War. Much of
the action in "Requiem for a Wren" took place here.
